Blog Safety!
Although keeping a blog offers potential benefits, including improved writing skills and communication, it's important to set guidelines to make your blog as safe as possible. Here are a few suggestions to get started:
- Never Offer Any Personal Information
- This includes ALL personal information! Address, Number, School Name, Email Address, Age Birthdate and even more!!
- It is amazing what people can figure out about you from just a small amount of information
- Assume whatever you post on your blog is going to be permanent
- Whenever you put something on a blog or the web people are able to save it to their computer or even print it out! Don't ever put anything you wouldn't want others to see on your blog!
- Limit your audience
- Because blogging anonymously without names or any other information you don't want to share with the entire world is a little difficult. Make your blog private so you can choose who reads what you post!
- Avoid using Photos
- Photos make you a perfect target for being unsafe! Especially if you are using real names, photos give people a direct link to who they are reading about... Good for your friends, bad for Cyber Stalkers!
- Do not post personal information about other people
- You may decide you do not care about blog safety, but it is unfair for your friends and family to be put all over the web without having a say
