HELP International - Creating Social Change

I was accepted into a Health Program this summer through Help International! I will be going to Uganda for 2 months this summer to create a change in the lives of the people in Mbale Uganda! Please take a moment to watch this video on the importance of doing our part!

As a volunteer I will have the opportunity to initiate life-changing, sustainable development programs. I will have the opportunity to use my Health major and work on public health projects.  I will have the opportunity to help educate the people of Uganda about HIV/AIDS; I can also bring help to those who have already been infected. I am confident that I can make a difference in their lives.

If YOU want to help create social change you can help me in my goal of raising $2000 that will go directly to these great projects, changing the lives of potentially thousands of people for the better.

You can make a donation through PayPal online at: http://help-international.org/donate-now, including “Debbie Stauffer” in the comments section. If you’d like more information please visit the HELP International website www.help-international.org

Another Class Assignment

Blog Safety!

Although keeping a blog offers potential benefits, including improved writing skills and communication, it's important to set guidelines to make your blog as safe as possible. Here are a few suggestions to get started:

  • Never Offer Any Personal Information
    • This includes ALL personal information! Address, Number, School Name, Email Address, Age Birthdate and even more!!
    • It is amazing what people can figure out about you from just a small amount of information
  • Assume whatever you post on your blog is going to be permanent
    • Whenever you put something on a blog or the web people are able to save it to their computer or even print it out! Don't ever put  anything you wouldn't want others to see on your blog!
  • Limit your audience
    • Because blogging anonymously without names or any other information you don't want to share with the entire world is a little difficult.  Make your blog private so you can choose who reads what you post!
  • Avoid using Photos
    • Photos make you a perfect target for being unsafe! Especially if you are using real names, photos give people a direct link to who they are reading about... Good for your friends, bad for Cyber Stalkers!
  • Do not post personal information about other people
    • You may decide you do not care about blog safety, but it is unfair for your friends and family to be put all over the web without having a say

This was a good assignment for me.... I don't follow any of these rules! :S

Blog Pedagogy

I am taking an Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences class.
For one of my assignments I am supposed to write a blog about educational blogs.  Education is taking some amazing advances with technology.  Many classes are having more access to computers, iPads all which are being used for educational purposes.  Several different elementary classes all over the world are creating blogs for their classroom! This gives students the opportunity to learn about technology and improve their writing skills.  It is also a fun way to show parents what the students are doing in the classroom!

This is a blog is for the third graders in room 12 at Arbor Heights Elementary!
Each of the children in the class wrote a scary story for Halloween and got to submit it to their blog! http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=41233&assignmentid=12975 I am sure it is fun for the students to see their stories published online!
Another educational blog I found is a class of 11 and 12 year old students form Auckland, New Zealand!

I would have been very content attending school here!! In their blog they talk about their experiences learning to sail and to kayak! The class has a lot of fun and they really enjoy sharking their experiences with everyone through their blog.  I think it helps makes activities and assignments come to life!

Another blog is from students from Mr. Crosby's class! They are learning all about technological education materials! This is going to be such an advantage to them! I am taking this class to learn how to Blog, Skype make Wiki pages, podcasts and video casts and they are learning this in 5th grade!! Something fun this class did was to create a little experiment and then had people vote on the blog what would happen! To hear about their fun read their blog!!

New Favorite Quote!

If I'm too busy to read my scriptures and pray; I am far busier than the Lord ever intended me to be."

Never Judge What You Don't Understand

Hard to explain to someone who has no clue.
It's a daily struggle being in pain
or feeling sick on the inside
while you look fine on the outside.
This is what it is like to have
an invisible illness,
such as; Anxiety, Bipolar, Depression,
Diabetes, Epilepsy, Autism, etc.
"Never judge what you don't understand."

November 1st!

Today I am thankful for the power of prayer! I am taking one of my hardest classes this semester; Human Physiology.  I study at least two hours a day and still don't always comprehend the material.  I have made a habit of praying to help me understand what I study and today I had my 3rd test and I got a 96%!! I did my part by studying and trying to do my best and I know Heavenly Father filled in where I lacked!
